MY CAREER AT AES

By mid  2007 Ariel was selected to participate in the “AES Emerging Leaders Program” at Darden University. “From this new perspective I was able to get acquainted with an  AES much more advanced than I ever imagined. That experience helped me to expand aspects of my professional development in the areas of leadership and finances, as well as to create connections and relationships that have been very valuable over the last years”. The new slogan: “The power of being Global” came to me at a very good time, it  has now an exhuberant new meaning to me”.

Ariel Crispin

“My career at AES Dominicana has been one full of challenges, satisfaction and many rewards.”

This is how Ariel Crispin describes his path in the organization where he has had to play different roles.  His most recent position is Director of Strategic Planning, appointed to it in October 2009.  He has filled several positions in the organization, and his former position being was Operations Superintenden in Andres-DPP.

On his new role, Ariel will be reporting directly to the company´s presidency, and he will be leading the activities related to strategic planning and APEX.  Moreover, Ariel will be part of the company´s Strategy Committee.

This is how Ariel Crispin describes his path in the organization where he has had to play different roles.  He started working at AES in 2003 to supervise some aspects of the combined cycle’s last phase of construction at AES Andres.

Due to his Engineering background, working in the power generation field was not in his comfort zone, “Nevertheless, I fell in love with the project, first with the facilities, later on with the philosophy of the company, and finally with the people at AES”, he tells us.  During that time he was holding the position of Project Engineer, and from there he oversaw some projects and supervised infrastructure maintenance and construction works, on top of handling environmental issues at the facilities.

Late in 2004, he was assigned as OPIP (Port Facility Protection Officer) at AES Andres, and from this position he handled every aspect related to the physical integrity of the plants and in November 2004, when he was given the responsibilities and duties to oversee industrial safety and operational health, he was given the position of “Logistics Manager”.

At this time, Crispin points out, he realized AES is always looking after the talent of its collaborators to provide them with opportunities to develop them.  From there on I started having contact with the corporate world.

In August 2005 he assumed the challenged of becoming AES Andres Maintenance Director and in 2007 he was faced with another great challenge in the company.  This time he was appointed as Maintenance Director at Itabo, another one of the generating companies that make up AES Dominicana’s business portfolio.

From his perspective, with this change AES gave him lessons he will never forget, “This is an organization that offers you opportunities as long as you have the proper background and willingness, so a whole new world opened before me when in May 2008 I was honored to coordinate the functions of the APEX Committee as Champion for the business.

In September 2008 he went back to AES Andres & DPP with a much more mature vision of the business as Operations Superintendent.

For Ariel Crispin AES has been a whole series of events paced out after a career plan which has been developed after the abilities the corporation has identified in him, both as a professional and as a human being.
