María M. Gaitán Leal

"The opportunity AES gives me to act with integrity and in accordance with my values is what lets me go to sleep in peace at the end of the day," and that is only possible because AES is a corporation that abides by its corporate values and makes these values the foundation of all its activities.

In 2003, María Gaitan first came to work for Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Itabo as Human Resources Assistant.  She was in charge of the administration of benefits and training sessions, and she was responsible for initiating the Performance Administration System intended to measure results by objectives and skills.

In 2005, she was moved to coordinate the Compensations & Benefits area, and in  2006 when AES acquired 25% from El Paso (AES owned 25%, El Paso owned 25% and the Dominican State owned the remaining 50%) she was appointed as  Compensations & Benefits Manager for all AES Dominicana companies.  At the time we had the Distribution Company and the three Generating companies.

Among the main challenges she has faced, we can mention the implementation of the Hay System to all salary compensations.  In 2008 the Dominican Republic was responsible, together with the Regional Human Resources Department, for leading the process to take this methodology to the whole region (LATAM).  This was a huge step towards the homologation of benefits throughout all companies and areas.
